I have come to a pivotal point in my life. A point where I find it utterly and absolutely useless to divulge my age. Think about it, why do people really want to know how hold you are after the age of 21? Nine times out of ten is to launch a self-absorbed train of thought about how you should act or not act, what you should have or not have, and ultimately where you should be in life.  Also, I find that most people use age as a subject of comparison between their lives and the lives of others.  Does my age really have to be a pre-requisite for defining if I am a success or failure, ahead of the game or behind? I think not.

Some days, when I am surrounded by my older siblings and we are laughing with one another, I feel like I am that 10 year old girl swelled with joy over being the "baby" of the family. Other days, when I feel a bit beaten down by the trials and tribulations of life, I feel as though I am older than my mother. The point is, I am not my age. My age doesn't define me as a person and I don't want it to be a defining factor to those that eagerly seek it out.

So, when you ask me my age, you might get a random number that I just feel like throwing out on that particular day or you might not get a number at all. Why? Because I don't want to fall in the deep pool of age-loathers trodden with society's standards of where I should be at any given stage of my life, that's why!

BRAVO!!! Wow, as I read this blog it was as if I thought up the words myself. Well said sister! This is definitely something I can relate to. Sadly, age is just one aspect of the whole perverse ordeal of trying to figure someone out. I know what you mean when it comes to family. For me, the biological orderliness is the other way around; I am the oldest of my siblings. My brothers, sister and I have always had a blast and they’ve kept me feeling youthful. I don’t think about how old I am when we’re (including my parents) playfully shouting during a sports game, cracking jokes, battling in a board/video game nor when I am tumbling across the floor with my niece and nephew. People would label certain things childish at my age but I call it being full of and enjoying life.
