Alarm blaring, parents yelling, children fighting, bacon frying, coffee brewing, seriously contemplating calling in sick...How do you choose to invite the dawn of a new day into your life?

When I was a child, I remember being awoken by the prayers of my mother on some days and the cackle of cartoon characters on others. As a young adult, mornings of the past were invited with much anxiety over being late for either school or work and resentment for anyone that boasted about arriving anywhere before 7 a.m. I have never been a "morning person" but in recent years, I have learned how crucial morning is to set the tone of the rest of your day. Think about it, would you find yourself more excited about going to an event that was advertised with a nice invitation targeted at seeking your presence or an event that was haphazardly announced, not really caring whether you bothered to show up or not? I know which one I would be more excited to attend and this is how the revelation of properly inviting morning into my life was born. That, and the fact that I live upstairs from my nephews that I reference as the Bickering Brothers (Note to readers: children's book series titled Bickering Brothers coming after my novel).  Almost every morning I would hear my sister-in-law screaming for my nephews to wake up and almost every morning I would hear my nephews arguing about who's taking too long in the bathroom. As I layed in my bed, I thought about how nice it would be to, number 1 have thicker walls, and number 2 change the way I and those around me invited morning into our lives.

In recent years, mornings have been invited into my life with meditation, prayer, and much thanksgiving. Friends, do you know that many lie down in their beds at night and don't get the chance to see another morning? I like to usher in creative flow into my mornings because creativity is essential to what I do and who I am. So, I keep a pad and pen next to my bed and jot down dreams and visions that were given to me while I slept.  Lately, since I've been devoting so much time to writing my novel, I have been dreaming about my characters and scenes that I have yet to write. It's really exelerating.

Again, I ask you, how do you choose to invite the dawn of a new day into your life? Set the tone for your day and make the day count today!

  1. Takeisha, you have always been a very talented person.

Thank you for the "call to remembrance" that each day is truly a blessing.

What a great concept. Made me think about how I conducted myself during the morning.

i'm still working on the whole morning thing, but when i do get a head start with my morning meditation my day is much more gratifying!

Another great concept. I had to contemplate on how I invited the morning being that each one is usually a rather unique summons. lol. Yesterday I actually woke up to my reflection in the window, thinking about how blessed I am to be able to love and appreciate my life, even though there is a lot more work to be done to "the Pieta" that is I. Today I woke up in full prayer mode, grateful for such a wonderful family and the warm feeling of love. I was also stoked because I had an exam and I was R-E-A-D-Y! On the flip side, I will not perjure myself and say that I haven't had mornings where I was in a funk. I do know that self progression is how I will slowly dispose of the times I let morning casually stroll in, through the doggy door, with beer on it’s breath (un-invited exasperation), causing my day to be tainted. The way I start my day is the way it will end so I chose to formally invite the morning optimistically.

    Hello,
my dear sister-in law after reading your blog, I have come to realize that our walls are very thin. Anything we say, (if it's loud enough) can be heard. So I just wanted to say I'm working on changing my morning wakeup calls. I'm sure I can wake up an entire neighborhood. This is a really good blog. In fact it sounds like a book. This should be one of your next Chapter books.

  7. @ K - hehehe, I love how you wrote, "...morning casually stroll in, through the doggy door, with beer on it’s breath (un-invited exasperation), causing my day to be tainted." Excellent metaphor! I see that we may have to co-author something in the future! :-)

@ Char - Yes, my dear sister, I am glad that you are "inviting" the opportunity to adjust your wake up calls. LOL! Yes, I did think about making this a book...you never know, but one step at a time! :-)
